The Financial Reporting team carries out the traditional core financial accounting and reporting role within the organization.  They steward the organization’s assets, ensuring business integrity, financial health and control, and ensures that the organization conducts itself in accordance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.  This includes ensuring compliance with Canadian (federal and provincial) and US (federal and state) tax laws and regulations as well as overseeing and implementing financial control infrastructure.  Providing a strategic role in the organization by helping in the development and deployment of business solutions and providing support to management in strategic decision making and guiding the organization towards its business objectives by helping the organization sustainably create value.

Responsibilities

The Intermediate Accountant is responsible for tax, corporate and complex accounting, as well as budgeting and forecasting for these areas.  Additionally, the Intermediate Accountant provides accounting and advisory services to all areas of the business and works collaboratively with all areas of the organization to ensure IFRS accounting and reporting requirements are met while continually striving for improvements and efficiencies in all department functions.

Key functions include:

  • Prepare NB Power’s internal and external financial accounting report requirements;
  • Provide tax services to all areas of the business; and
  • Maintain NB Power’s internal control infrastructure.

Qualifications

Our ideal teammate will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Commerce;
  • Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant Designation;
  • Five years of progressive experience, two years of which must be post designation, in an accounting environment with experience in accounting, external financial reporting and tax;
  • Knowledge and understanding in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS);
  • Ability to manage and prioritize ongoing activities while dealing with competing deadlines and completing quality deliverables in a timely manner;
  • Ability to identify and raise awareness of financial and non-financial risks;
  • Challenge results and provide advice/recommendations;
  • Foster collaboration/teamwork; and
  • Effective communication and decision-making skills and problem solving and identifying solutions.

An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.

An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
